Ken Baker, RPh. J.D. is a pharmacist and an attorney. He is currently vice president and general counsel for Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company, Algona, Iowa. Prior to joining Pharmacists Mutual, Dr. Baker practiced general trial law for 13 years, including three years as a deputy prosecuting attorney. He practiced pharmacy for several years before becoming a lawyer and managed a community chain pharmacy for over four years.

Goals and Objectives

Program Goal:

To discuss the concept of using continuous quality improvement programs and the technician’s central role in the process.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
  1. Discuss the significance and scope of medication errors which presently occur in filling patient prescriptions.
  2. Describe various types of medication errors currently encountered in pharmacy practice.
  3. Describe the importance of the pharmacy technician's role in helping reduce and/or prevent medication errors.

Target Audience

This program primarily focuses on the role of the pharmacy technician in preventing medication errors and is accredited only for pharmacy technicians (The program is not approved/accredited for pharmacists).Other health care practitioners desiring to learn more about the use of continuous quality control procedures in helping reduce and eliminate medication errors may also find this program useful.
