This webinar was developed by the American Pharmacists Association and supported through an independent educational grant from Pfizer, Inc.

| Course Overview: |
.jpg) Overactive bladder is a highly prevalent and distressing disorder that affects an estimated 33 million men and women in the United States. Treatment comprising lifestyle interventions, behavioral treatments, and pharmacologic therapy with antimuscarinic agents can decrease symptoms and lead to improved quality of life for many patients. Pharmacists who understand how to optimize antimuscarinic therapy can help to ensure the best possible treatment outcomes.
This Webinar will use a case-based format to explore common patient scenarios involving drug therapy for overactive bladder. By participating in this webinar, pharmacists will learn how to recognize and address situations such as treatment failure and nonadherence. Pharmacists also will learn strategies for managing adverse effects of antimuscarinic therapy and resolving potential problems posed by concomitantly administered medications.
|
| Learning Objectives: |
At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacist will be able to:
-
Summarize the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and treatment of overactive bladder.
-
Assess a patient’s initial response to pharmacologic therapy and recommend changes to improve efficacy.
-
Discuss the use of antimuscarinic agents in men with likely or proven bladder outlet obstruction.
-
Describe options for managing common adverse effects of antimuscarinic therapy.
-
Identify common causes of nonadherence among patients being treated for overactive bladder and recommend possible solutions.
