As pharmacy professionals counseling women in this stage of life, understanding their nutritional and supplemental needs is critical. Join JoAnne Conrad as she makes sense of the often confusing world of nutrition and supplements for this age group in our course entitled "The Maturing Woman: Medications, Nutrition, and Supplements"

At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacist will be able to:
- Discuss the current clinical guidelines and recommendations for a woman's cardiovascular and bone health.
- Describe the use of complementary and nutritional therapies for cardiovascular and bone health in the maturing woman.
- Discuss the management of peri-menopausal symptoms using hormone replacement therapy and/or complementary treatments.
- List the conventional and complementary therapies of the management of osteoarthritis.
- List five recommendations for maintenance of good health in the maturing woman.
- Discuss potential interactions between supplements and traditional medicines for CVD, osteoporosis, menopause, and osteoarthritis.
At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacy technician will be able to:
- Name several key issues affecting women's cardiovascular and bone health.
- Describe the use of complementary and nutritional therapies of cardiovascular and bone health in the maturing woman.
- Name several common questions about hormone replacement therapy and/or complementary treatments that you would refer to the pharmacist.
- List the conventional and complementary therapies for the management of osteoarthritis.
- List five recommendations for maintenance of good health in the maturing woman.

JoAnne Conrad is a licensed dietitian in the State of California. She has worked as a manager in the Department of Internal Medicine at Kaiser Permanente. She has also been a Project Manager for Health Connect and Supervisor of the Cardio Protective Clinic at Kaiser Permanente. JoAnne has also served as a clinical research monitor and supervisor. |
