Course Overview:
There are more than 25 million people in the U.S. with diabetes and another 60 million people with pre-diabetes. It is considered an epidemic and is forecasted to get worse in the near future. We have the knowledge to prevent diabetes and improve the quality of life for those at risk. Attend "Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes: It's Not Just about Blood Sugars" to stay abreast of the latest pharmacologic treatments and behavior modification tools to prevent this coming pandemic of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacist will be able to:

  • Identify the risks factors for Pre-Diabetes, Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) and Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG).
  • Describe new tools for monitoring treatment  therapies.
  • Discuss new aggressive treatment strategies for diabetes and the metabolic syndrome (pre-diabetes).
  • Provide examples of simple, time efficient interventions pharmacists can make to improve the health status of patients at risk for diabetes.
At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacy technician will be able to:

  • Identify one risk factor for pre-diabetes.
  • Summarize current standards of care for patients with diabetes. 
  • List the behavior changes necessary for patients at risk for diabetes.
  • Describe patient questions about diabetes that you will refer to the pharmacist.

You must attend the entire session and complete an evaluation in order to receive your Statement of Credit.
