Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacist will be able to:
- Describe the epidemiology, socioeconomic impact, and pathogenesis of obesity and obesity-related disorders.
- Summarize the efficacy of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapy for obesity, including use of dietary supplements for weight loss.
- Discuss safety concerns and drug interactions encountered with the use of prescription and OTC diet aids.
- Demonstrate how a pharmacist can provide patient education and clinical monitoring, in the management of obesity.
