The Role of the Pharmacy Team in the Management of Hypertension

|
Management of hypertension is a critical issue for healthcare providers. Statistics show that management of hypertension clearly decreases the risk of many other cardiac and vascular related disorders that contribute to significant morbidity and mortality. This course presents an overview of new guidelines and blood pressure goals. The course uses case studies to present scenarios that pharmacy technicians or pharmacists might encounter in their practice. The course then offers guidance in managing these various patient situations.

| Learning Objectives: |
At the end of the program, the pharmacist should be able to:
- Discuss current guidelines for the management of hypertension.
- Determine the appropriate blood pressure goal based on patient characteristics.
- Describe scenarios where a pharmacist would need to counsel a patient regarding blood pressure.
- Answer patient questions related to high blood pressure.
At the end of the program, the technician should be able to:
- Discuss current guidelines for the management of hypertension.
- Determine the appropriate blood pressure goal based on patient characteristics.
- Describe scenarios where a pharmacy technician might counsel a patient regarding their blood pressure.
- Determine when a pharmacy technician should refer a patient to a pharmacist for counseling regarding blood pressure.
