Understanding Pain and the Community Pharmacist's Role in its Management

This accredited on-demand Internet based educational resource for pharmacists is supported by an educational grant from Purdue Pharma L.P.

Course Overview:

Dr. Kathryn Hahn develops an engaging presentation to describe the causes of pain and its impact on patients and society. She then brings pharmacists up to speed on the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic methods for managing pain. After making the pharmacist comfortable with pain and its management, she uses case studies to make a compelling case for the pharmacist's role in successful management of their patients' pain.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the impact of pain and pain treatment on society.
  2. Discuss the barriers to good pain management.
  3. Recommend appropriate methods to overcome those barriers.
  4. Identify the skills necessary to engage in patient consultations concerning pain management.
