An Evidence-Based Approach to Treating Behavioral Disturbances & Seizures in Older Patients

After completing this program, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the diagnostic paradigm to differentiate the multiple neurological causes for behavioral distress, including dementia and other neurological causes, seizure disorders, and psychiatric illness.
  • Compare and contrast antiepileptic drugs based on safety and efficacy profiles, as well as drug-drug interactions, in older patients who often have complicated drug regimens.
  • Evaluate pharmacologic treatment of the older adult considering safety, tolerability, ease of dosing, and neuroprotective effects of common psychotropic agents.
