Continuous Quality Improvement Programs For The Reduction Of Medication Errors
Stephen Freed, RPh, Diabetes Educator
Publisher of DiabetesinControl.com Newsletter
Program Overview:
Pharmacists are under increased workloads, with tremendous pressure placed on quickly and efficiently processing large numbers of prescriptions. In addition much time is spent with third party insurance problems, and increased counseling of patients. These changes in practice norms have greatly increased the opportunity for errors and miss-fills. Pharmacists must be able to identify and cure causes for possible errors before they occur.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and define some common causes of medication errors
- Help redesign pharmacy operations and process flow to reduce medication errors
- Define a Continuous Quality Improvement Program
- Develop and implement programs with a goal towards improving patient safety
- Verbalize understanding of Florida Regulations for Continuous Quality Improvement Programs
- Evaluate success of the program implemented
- Explain the CQIP programs to non-pharmacist management and employees
This course has been approved by the Florida State Board of Pharmacy to Meet 2 Medical Errors Continuing Education Credits.
