Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacist will be able to:

1. Describe the epidemiology, socioeconomic impact and pathophysiology of osteoporosis.
2. List common risk factors and medications w hich are associated w ith an increased incidence of
   developing osteoporosis.
3. Discuss the standards for osteoporosis prophylaxis and treatment based on bone densitometry
   readings.
4. Discuss the proposed mechanisms of drug-induced bone demineralization.
5. Discuss recommendations that pharmacists can make to limit drug.
