  2. Discuss the criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes
  3. Discuss the physiology of euglycemia and glucotoxicity
  4. Relate which foods cause an increase in the risk factors for complications of diabetes
  5. Relate which foods cause increase our risk factors for complications
  6. Describe how physical activity may be used as a treatment for diabetes
  7. Determine why, how and when to monitor blood sugar
  8. Discuss and compare 6 classes of drugs used to treat diabetes
  9. Describe the need for earlier intervention in treating diabetes
  10. Determine how to become part of the diabetes team
  11. Motivate patients to better self-care

At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to (Pharmacy Technicians):
  1. Discuss the reasons for the increase in diabetes
  2. Explain the different types of diabetes and their symptoms
  3. Explain the criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes and prediabetes
  4. Explain the concept of insulin resistance
  5. Discuss the importance of monitoring blood sugar
  6. Explain the purpose of the HbA1c blood test
  7. Differentiate between the classes of or medications used to treat diabetes
  8. Describe the different actions of insulin
  9. Explain the role of insulin treatment in diabetes
  10. Discuss the importance of controlling blood glucose
