Keys to Successful Management of Agitation and Aggression in the Elderly:
When and How to Treat Patients with Behavioral Disturbances
After completing this program, participants will be able to:
- Examine clinical data on successful management of behavioral disturbances in older patients through both behavioral and pharmacological interventions, differentiating which behaviors respond best to which types of interventions.
- Compare and contrast pharmacologic treatments for older adults considering patient safety, efficacy profiles, drug-drug interactions, ease of dosing, and drug regimen simplification.
- Discuss the direction of research and treatment of behavioral disturbances and dementia in older patients including new findings on the neuroprotective effects of psychotropic agents and the long-term effects of treatment.
