Program Description
This CE monograph will provide critical information to assist community pharmacists in understanding e-prescribing processes and standards, as well as better prepare community pharmacists to integrate e-prescribing into their workflow.

Faculty

Ken Whittemore, Jr., RPh, MBA
Ken is Vice President of Professional and Regulatory Affairs for SureScripts.  SureScripts was founded by the National Community Pharmacists Association and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores to encourage and promote true electronic prescribing connectivity between physicians and pharmacists.

Prior to joining SureScripts, Ken was President and CEO of CARE Pharmacies, Inc., an independent community pharmacy franchise in the Washington, DC area.  While with CARE, he was responsible for supervising the transformation of the organization from that of a group purchasing cooperative to that of a full-service franchise.

During the decade prior to his CARE tenure, Ken was Vice President for Management, Professional, and State affairs for the National Community Pharmacists Association.  In this role, he was responsible for monitoring and formulating strategies for dealing with a wide variety of managed care, regulatory, and operational issues that confronted NCPA's independent pharmacy members.  He also acted as NCPA's liaison to all state, regional, and national pharmacy groups.

From 1980 through 1992, Ken was a principal in a successful independent pharmacy in Western Maryland.  He is a 1976 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, and is licensed to practice pharmacy in both Maryland and Pennsylvania.  He also has practiced in hospital pharmacy settings, and holds an MBA degree that was awarded to him by Mount Saint Mary's College in 1990.
